Manbij- Manbij, a city in North and East Syria, was under the control of the mercenaries of the Turkish state until it was liberated by the Manbij Military Council. Buthaina Al-Hassan, member of the Women’s Council of the Future Syria Party in Manbij, spoke to NuJINHA about the occupation of Manbij, the liberation of the city and the ongoing Turkish attacks.

‘The Democratic Nation Project has been targeted’

Pointing to the difficult times that they have been going through for more than ten years, Buthaina Al-Hassan said, “These difficult times have made us stronger. Although we have faced difficulties, we are able to overcome them. The Turkish state has been targeting the Democratic Nation Project in cooperation with the capitalist countries and with the support of the countries in the region. The Turkish state, which aims to revive the Ottoman Empire, tries to recolonize Syria.”

Emphasizing that the Turkish state has intensified its attacks on North and East Syria, she said, “The Treaty of Lausanne was signed on July 24, 1923 and its 100th anniversary is approaching. For this reason, the Turkish state has intensified its attacks on North and East Syria. Another reason why it has intensified its attacks is the upcoming Turkish elections. Turkey tries to regain its control and regain the trust of the Turkish people during this period.”

‘Rights violations are committed against people’

Mentioning the role of people in North and East Syria, she said, “Many crimes have been committed against the people in the region. Rights violations are committed against the people; they are subjected to violence, arrests and oppression.”

‘People should be determined to resist’

Buthaina Al-Hassan noted that the Turkish state continues its invasion attacks to expand its control in North and East Syria. “The ongoing Turkish attacks on our region is a crime against humanity. The people of the region fight occupation and terrorism by sacrificing their lives. The people should be determined to resist the Turkish attacks; they should empower their organizing struggle. Resistance is the only way to stand against occupation. Everyone, who can use a gun, should join the resistance. All people in the region have the will to defend the achievements they gained in North and East Syria.”
