Aso Majidi: Woman breaking gender stereotypes

Aso Majidi has broken gender stereotypes and has ignored criticism by working as a construction worker.

SANİA MURADÎ

Sanandaj- Women working in male-dominated industries like construction often face pervasive gender stereotypes and biases. Women, who defy all gender stereotypes inspire others and pave the way for change.

Aso Majidi is one of the women, inspiring other women by breaking gender stereotypes and challenging traditional gender roles. Her story represents many women fighting against gender inequality in society.

She works as a construction worker, mixing cement on construction sites, laying tile floors and sometimes creating artwork from broken tiles. Aso Majidi is also a painter, using historical figures. She has held many solo exhibitions in Sanandaj. “I apply microcement, formulated based on cement, resins, aggregates, additives and pigments. It is ideal for coating walls, floors and ceilings,” she told NuJINHA. “I also paint buildings and doors, and do general building works.”

‘We have the same talents’

Aso Majidi is against the division of work between women and men. “Women can do any job men can do,” she said, asking women to be supported rather than prevented. “I broke gender stereotypes. My family and daughter always support me. My family and the people around me never prevent me from working. I thank them for their support. I hope all women will break gender stereotypes.”

‘You will succeed’

Aso Majidi calls on all women to follow their dreams. “As a woman, I call on all women to support each other. Women should also be aware of their talents and never give up. Maybe you won't be able to succeed at the beginning but you will definitely succeed one day if you do not give up.”
