Amîna El-Şêx Mehmûd takes care of her five children with disabilities alone

Five of seven children of Amîna El-Şêx Mehmûd are disabled. She takes care of her children alone and expects support.

Manbij- 40-year-old Amîna El-Şêx Mehmûd, who live in Manbij, is the mother of seven. Five of her seven children are disabled. She went to many doctors to have her children treated but all the doctors told her that her children are disabled due to the lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain.

Stating that her husband used to help her to take care of their children, to the brain Amîna El-Şêx Mehmûd said, “In 2016, while my husband was going to the pharmacy to buy our children’s medicines, an explosion occurred. He was seriously injured and lost one of his eyes in the explosion. Now, he cannot use one of his hands. For this reason, I took full responsibility for the house and the children. I do my best to meet their needs. Our children should undergo surgery but we cannot afford to pay for surgery.”

Emîna Mihemed, Co-chair of the People's Decision Bureau of the Social Affairs and Labor Committee supporting the people with disabilities in Manbij, gave information about the activities of the bureau that opened after the liberation of Manbij. “Manbij was liberated in 2016. The bureau has carried out activities to support the people with disabilities in Manbij since its liberation. However, we do our best to support all people with disabilities but we cannot due to impossibilities. So far we have been able to give several wheelchairs for those who cannot walk.”

Projects for the people with disabilities

Speaking about the projects of the bureau for the people with disabilities, Emîna Mihemed said, “We have been working on several projects. One of our projects is to establish an institute for people with disabilities. The people with disabilities will be able to receive physiotherapy at the institute.” Emîna Mihemed called on the human rights organizations to support the activities and projects of the bureau.
