Qamishlo – Many young women of NE Syria make inroads into art. 23-year-old Solin Osé is just one of these women. Solin has painted since she was 14 years old. She always keeps her brushes and canvas with her. She told us how she began to paint and what she focuses on while painting.

Solin is an art student at Rojava University. She has received education in painting for six years. She told us the people around her didn’t welcome her interest in painting but her mother supported her. “The people around me encouraged me to stop painting and study in a different department but I didn’t leave my dream thanks to my mother’s support.”

“If you keep your hope alive, your dream will definitely come true”

Noting that the reality of migration has a great impact on her and her painting due to the ongoing civil war in Syria, Solin said she focused on this issue in her paintings. “The migration of people has had an indelible effect on me, for this reason, I focus on the sufferings of refugees, especially on refugee women. After participating in many exhibitions, I could change the perspective on my work and I think I could affect people’s feelings. I want to tell parents that ‘Support your children’s dreams and listen to their dreams.’ If you keep your hope alive, your dream will definitely come true.”
