Rojava Intellectuals Union empowers women’s artistic aspects

Fidan Mihemed, a member of the Rojava Intellectuals Union in the Afrin region, which supports the development of women in literature, culture, and art, called on young people to discover their skills.

Shehba – Shehba Intellectuals Union was founded to empower women and people with disabilities in literature, culture, and art. Deaf and mute Şervin and Beyaz are also supported by the union. Their paintings draw the attention of the public. Fidan Mihemed, a member of the Rojava Intellectuals Union in the Afrin region, told us the union has carried out scientific research and organized an annual literature competition to honor Ş. Gerzan.

“Our aim is to empower young people”

Stating that they aim to expand the works of the union, Fidan Mihemed said, “We give books to the students and then ask them what they understand from the books they read. We, as the union, focus on young people because they are our future and the future of our literature. The young people also attend the training courses held by the union. Şervin and Beyaz are two young women, who are deaf and mute. We communicate with them by writing. We will hire them as painting teachers of the union in the future.”

She won the competition

Biharin Mihemed, who is from Afrin, said, “I took part in the literature competition and won it. I participated in the training courses of the union. The teachers of the union encouraged me to keep writing. Then, I wrote a book entitled, “How to speak Kurdish” with the support of my teachers. My book was published. I call on all young people to find out their skills.”
