Amed - Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) and Kurdish Literature Association held an event in a café located in Amed’s Sur district for female writers and journalists writing in Kurdish on the occasion of the Kurdish Language Festival. Kurdish female journalists, writers, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun and female administrators of the HDP attended the event. Female journalists and writers have been awarded a plaque for their efforts to keep the Kurdish language alive by MED-DER and Kurdish Literature Association.

Jailed Ayşe Gökhan awarded with a plaque

Mesopotamia Language and Culture Research Association (MED-DER) Co-Chair Şilan Elmaskan made a speech at the event. She stated that they wanted to organize this event on Kurdish Language Day, May 15, but they had to postpone it due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Şilan Elmaskan noted that the event was held for female journalists and writers for their efforts to keep the Kurdish language alive. After her speech, HDP Diyarbakır MP Remziye Tosun made a speech. Emphasizing the importance of awarding many journalists and writers such as jailed Free Women’s Movement (TJA) Spokesperson Ayşe Gökkan with a plaque, Remziye Tosun drew attention to Ayşe Gökkan’s contribution to the Kurdish language. “Kurdish people exist with their language. They have staged a struggle for the Kurdish language,” she said.
