Writing is the art of expressing thoughts, feelings, and perspectives; using words to tell these expressions to others. Writing has different forms and purposes. It has rules that distinguish the forms and purposes. But the most important thing that writing needs is a writer. Writers having strong writing abilities are able to write valuable books.

Her hidden talent revealed

Nerîman Evdikê is a writer and storyteller living in the Sêrekaniyê city of NE Syria. She began to write when she was a child but her fear was controlling her so much that she couldn't show her talent to anyone. “I studied Arabic Literature and then I studied Kurdish Literature in Amed, Kurdistan. After studying literature, my talent became stronger and thus I became more skilled in using concepts, languages, and writing styles. I could reveal the talent I had hidden since my childhood,” she told us while talking about how her writing journey started.

“I always asked myself questions”

Stating that studying literature both helped her and complicated everything for her, Nerîman Evdikê said, “The literary theory helped me to learn the genres and the history of literature but it also made me feel like it was difficult to start my literary career. I always asked myself questions such as “Will I be able to see my own books among these books?”, “Will I be able to see my books in someone else's hands” or “Will I be able to take a step to write?” Although many of my books were published, I still feel these fears.”

“I had my own fantasy world”

“We cannot choose our talent, it is born within us,” Nerîman Evdikê said and continued to talk as follows: “Each of us has a special talent and we must work to develop it. My talent is writing. I was an introverted child; I couldn’t express my thoughts or my feelings. So I tried to create a life and atmosphere to be alone. My parents sometimes asked me why I was talking to myself. Actually, I wasn’t talking to myself but to the characters, I created in my fantasy world. I had my own fantasy world.”

“I came out of my shell by writing”

“People should work hard to develop their talents,” Nerîman Evdikê said, “Writing helps me to express my feelings, my thoughts, and my own world to readers. I came out of my shell by writing. As time passes by, the readers like what I wrote and thus I managed to get rid of that mysterious personality and share what I hid inside me with the readers.”

“We can expand our imagination”

Stating that she still has fears about writing and expressing her thoughts, Nerîman Evdikê ended her speech by saying, “I still have some red lines and borders that I want to cross. I share all the stories, articles, and books that I have written on social media platforms or through magazines and articles. My message to all writers, poets, intellectuals, and women, who want to be writers, is that they should be afraid of writing. They should focus on writing and know what they want to write. So we can expand our imagination and knowledge.”
