Tehran- The exhibition of Golnar Qasimi at Vali Gallery in Tehran will last until November 29. NuJINHA spoke to the artist about her artistic journey.

Graduated from the Department of Textile Engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology, also called the Tehran Polytechnic, Golnar Qasimi felt like she had to start something after giving birth to her second child. “I began to design gold and jewelry. After a while, I realized that designing gold and jewelry could not reflect my thoughts. That’s why I studied visual arts. I attended classes to improve myself. My artworks mostly have a psychological, social and philosophical background.”

Golnar Qasimi began to use other materials such as silver and other semi-precious stones. She holds an art management degree from Science and Research Academy and a Doctorate in Visual arts and Psychology relations from UNESCO.

She emphasizes contradictions in her works

Golnar Qasimi aims to emphasize contradictions in her artworks. “I am interested in the contradiction between tradition and modern and cultural contradictions. I use black and white to show the contradictions. Both reflect our personality and create beauty. They say that we have to accept ourselves, our weaknesses and accept others so that we can have a beautiful society.”

During the Covid-19 pandemic, she used cardboards, water and acrylic in my artworks. “Then, I realized that I like to design different things by using different materials. I used black, white and gray for my artworks, showing huge metropolitans full of mental and biological pollution.”

‘I want to address women’s issues’

“Unfortunately, every woman and girl in the Middle East is seen as a second-class citizen,” Golnar Qasimi said. “Women and girls face many social problems. Especially after getting married and becoming a mother, they face more problems. Unfortunately, women prevent each other, instead of supporting each other. My interest in visual art started when I wanted to express my inner feelings. Since I have a daughter, I want to address women’s issues in my artworks. I am hopeful for the future. Although women shoulder burdens, I believe that their future will be bright and beautiful. To have a beautiful future, women should keep struggling.”
