Emanî Silêman: Woman devotes herself to writing, theatre
Born in Qamishlo city, Emanî Silêman has never given up writing and theatre despite the ongoing war in Syria. Graduating from the chemistry department at university, she has been a theatre player for 20 years but she hasn’t performed on the stage for 10 years due to the ongoing war. She has published five books until now and kept writing poems and novels despite all the difficult conditions. Emanî has received supports from Palestinian, Algerian, and Tunisian female writers and she has had thousands of followers. “My writings and poems begin with truth, end with hopes and dreams,” Emanî told us.

Hesekê – Love and perseverance are the keys to success. The ongoing war in NE Syria and the wounded lives in the reality of war. Women have become a breath with what they have built in the shadow of war and destruction. Emanî Silêman is one of the women, who have kept dreaming of freedom and a world without war and struggled to realize their dreams. Devoting herself to writing, theatre, Emanî was born in Qamishlo city of NE Syria. After 32-year-old Emanî had her primary and secondary school education in Qamishlo, she graduated from the chemistry department at Euphrates University in Hesekê city. Emanî never gives up her dreams and she has been a theater player for years. She is interested in poems and writing and has published five books until now. Emanî works as a phlebotomist in the laboratory of the Martyr Legerin Hospital located in the Tiltemir district of Hasekê, also writes theater scripts.
“I feel alive while performing theatre plays”
When Emanî was a child, she began to perform theatre plays and she was sent to Tunisia by the school administration to represent Syria. “I had to stay away from the theater for a few years because of my school life. But after going to university, I had more time to spend on theater rehearsals. At university, we chose social issues in the country and staged a theatre play about them. I feel alive while performing theatre plays. Theatre is existence for me,” Emanî told us when she talked about her life and the place of theatre in her life.
“Theater, poetry, and novels are indispensable for me”
Emanî told us that theatre, poetry, and novels are indispensable for her. She told us her journey of writing poetry and novels with the following words; “I like writing poems and novels along with theater. I have written for a long time. After noticing that I wrote a lot of things, I decided to write a book. I published my first book, “Hemesat El-Nesmat”. Publishing my first book gave me the determination to write and produce more. A few months after my first book was published, I published my second book, ‘Seda El-Efkar’.”
“Female writers support me”
After publishing her two books, Emanî becomes known by people and has received supports from female writers in many Arab countries, “I cannot spend much time to write and I want my works to be satisfactory. I have written two novels. I share my books on social media and I have many followers. Palestinian, Algerian, and Tunisian female writers get in contact with me. My writings and poems begin with truth, end with hopes and dreams"
