Hasekê – Education is important to change mindsets, to improve ourselves; to have a strong and knowledgeable personality. Hilala Zêrin Women’s Culture and Art Center in Northern and Eastern Syria started the “Arjin Education Term” at the Bawer Academy located in the Mişêrdê neighborhood of Hesekê. The education term began on August 3 with the participation of 22 members.

“Communal life develops through education”

Hilala Zêrin Women’s Culture and Art Center has many offices in the NE Syria. Bera Ferec Hesen is one of the participants of the education term and she is a member of the culture and art center in Qamishlo. “As Hilala Zêrin, this is our second education term. This is an important and successful step. We can say that the education term is a chance for us to protect our culture and history,” Bera Ferec Hesen says the communal life develops through education. “Women represent the whole society; therefore, we can say that women are the pioneers of society. As women, we should educate ourselves so that we can pioneer our society. As women of the Hilala Zêrin, we need the education to protect our culture and values. We have the opportunity to get to know different cultures through education. Yes, we are Kurds, but each of us is from different cantons. In this way, we learn the culture of the region.”

They spend their time to the fullest

Zilan Sido, a member of the Hilala Zêrin Culture and Art Center in Shehba, talks about the education system and she says, “The education system teaches us how to organize ourselves. We wake up at 6 am and do sports together. Then, we join the courses. We take courses about culture, morality, the importance of education, method, leadership, natural society.” After the courses in the morning, the participants have a break for lunch. After lunch, the women take courses until evening. In the evening, the women come together and spend their time singing songs, reading books, and watching videos about their culture. Zilan Sido says “Education is a must” for women.
