Cannes Film Festival calls for release of Taraneh Alidoosti

The Cannes Film Festival has condemned the arrest of Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti and demanded her immediate release.

News Center- The Cannes Film Festival has condemned the arrest of Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, who was arrested on December 17 on charges of spreading falsehoods about nationwide protests after she posted a message on her social media to support the Jina Mahsa Amini protests and to condemn the execution of protesters.

Mohsen Shekari was executed on December 8 by the Iranian regime over Jina Mahsa Amini protests. Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti posted a message supporting the protests and condemning the execution of Mohsen Shekari on her Instagram account. After her post, she was arrested on December 17 on charges of spreading falsehoods about nationwide protests.

In her post, she wrote, “His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organization who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action is a disgrace to humanity.”

Her account has been suspended

Actress Taraneh Alidoosti has supported the protests since September. Her Instagram account, which had some 8 million followers, has been suspended.

The Cannes Film Festival has condemned her arrest and demanded her immediate release.
