Amed -The 8th Amed Theater Festival will be organized in the city of Amed by the Amed City Theater from October 20 to 30. The festival, which could not be organized for several years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be organized with the motto, “Va Cudi û va ye ev ax!”, a poem by Arjen Ari. At the festival, 18 theater plays, including 15 Kurdish theater plays, will be performed. Speaking to NuJINHA, Berfin Emektar, a theater player of the Amed City Theater, called on the people of Amed to attend the theater festival instead of the festivals organized by appointed-mayor aiming to assimilate the people.
Many new theater plays
Underlining that the theater festival was first organized by the Amed (Diyarbakır) Metropolitan Municipality before the appointment of trustees, Berfin Emektar said that they have organized the festival since the appointment of the trustees to the municipality. For two years, the festival hasn’t been organized due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Stating that the festival, which will be organized after two years, will be enjoyable for them, Berfin Emektar announced that many new Kurdish theater plays will be performed at the festival.
“We aim to draw attention to the destruction on the Mount Cudi with our motto”
Stating that the theater plays will be liked by the audience, Berfin Emektar said that they aim to draw attention to the destruction on the Mount Cudi whose nature has been destroyed, with the motto, “Va Cudi û va ye ev ax”.
“Theater groups from many cities such as Kirkuk, Istanbul, Van, Batman and Belgium will perform at the festival. We are happy to announce that many new theater plays will be performed at the festival. We decided to hold the festival with the motto, ‘Va Cudi va ye ax’, to draw attention to the recent destruction of nature and culture in the region. Trees and nature mean everything to us.”
“People should attend the festivals that reflect their own culture”
Calling on the people of Amed to attend the festivals that reflect their own culture instead of festivals organized by the state-appointed mayor aiming to assimilate the people, Berfin Emektar said, “We want our people to attend and embrace our festival. The state-appointed trustee has organized many festivals, which do not reflect our culture and language. The aim of these festivals is to assimilate our people, our culture and language. Our festival is an alternative against the festival of the trustee. It is a festival that reflects our own culture. We invite our people to the festival.”
