Kobanê – Yesterday, the Young Women’s Union in Euphrates Region held a march in Kobanê to draw attention to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan with the motto, “We fight for freedom of leader Apo, it is time to make leader Apo free”. Dozens of the people of Kobanê and members of the union carried photographs of Abdullah Öcalan during the march.

The first village visited by Abdullah Öcalan

The march started at Jina Azadi Square in Kobanê. The women marched to the Elpelûr village by chanting the slogan, “Bê serok jiyan nabe (There is no life without our leader)”. The Elpelûr village is known as the first village visited by Abdullah Öcalan when he entered Rojava in 1979.

“We must end the isolation”

Firyal Temî, spokesperson of the union, made a speech in the village:

“Today, we salute leader Apo's resistance in the Imrali prison at his home (the Elpelûr village). The isolation imposed upon leader Apo has been deepening and he has not been allowed to see his lawyers and family members. The conspirators are afraid of leader Apo to give perspective to the people in his speeches. The philosophy of leader Apo is now a global philosophy. For this reason, the people living in four parts of Kurdistan, Middle East and other parts of the world support leader Apo. We, as young women, must rise up and end the isolation.” 

“We must struggle”

 Nadiya Hiso, a woman who joined the march, said, “We will always owe to leader Apo no matter how many actions we organize or what we do. Leader Apo struggled relentlessly for women to know their reality. He keeps supporting women even in Imrali. The cause initiated by leader Apo serves all humanity today. However, the conspirators tried to end the struggle. The brutal attacks of the occupying Turkish state on our region continue. Everyone, particularly women, must struggle for leader Apo’s physical freedom.”

The march ended after the women chanted slogans such as, “Long live leader Apo” and “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, life, freedom).
