Yazidi and Arab women: Leader Apo's freedom is our freedom

The people of Shangal held a march yesterday to protest the international conspiracy against Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 15, 1999. “Leader Apo's freedom is our freedom,” said the women participating in the march.

Shengal (Sinjar)- A march was held in Shengal yesterday to protest the international conspiracy against Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 15, 1999. The march started in front of the buildings of the People’s Assembly in Sînûnê and ended at the Mem Zekî square. The march was organized by both Yazidi and Arab women in Shengal. The people participating in the march carried banners and chanted slogans such as, “Freedom to leader Apo, Autonomy to Shengal”, “No life without leader” and “You cannot block our sun”. A joint statement was released after the march by the Yazidi Free Women's Movement (Kurdish: Tevgera Azadiya Jinên Êzîdî-TAJÊ), the Martyrs' Families Council, the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Administration and Arab organizations in Shengal. In the statement, Yazidi and Arab communities said they would strengthen their struggle for physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.

 ‘We must struggle more’

After the march, Niam Bedel, a coordinating member of the TAJÊ, made a speech condemning the conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan. “Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) struggled for the freedom of all people and now is the time for us to struggle for his freedom. The people of Shengal must struggle more for his freedom,” she said in her speech.

‘His freedom will liberate humanity’

Making a speech on behalf of the Martyrs’ Families Council, Meyan Nasir said, “We will keep struggling until Abdullah Öcalan achieves his freedom. We will strengthen our struggle for his freedom. His freedom will liberate humanity.”

 Call on the CPT

Making a speech on behalf of the Arab community, Ebu Seger said, “We, as the Arab community, learned the ideology of leader Apo. Thanks to his ideology, we stand against slavery and attacks along with Yazidi people. Together, we will struggle for his freedom. We call on the CPT to fulfill its responsibility.”
