‘Women will lead peace and justice in Syria’

The Social Contract of North and East Syria is a draft of democracy and justice for Syria, said Edalat Omer, Chair of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria Women’s Council.

RONÎDA HACÎ

Hasakah- All systems implemented in the Middle East are based on division, nationalism, racism and sectarianism. The jihadist interim government that took over Syria following the fall of the Baathist regime in Syria has been imposing a sectarian system for its own interests and violently pursuing immoral and anti-democratic practices.

Edalat Omer, Chair of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria Women’s Council, thinks that the struggle and will of the people of North and East Syria have the power to build a project for all people in Syria. “Since the start of the Rojava Revolution, the people of North and East Syria have organized themselves and built their own system and developed their own project. They have managed to govern themselves and solve their problems without a state or a government. The project implemented in northeastern Syria paved the way for the liberation of many places such as Raqqa from ISIS. The Democratic Nation System has been welcomed in Raqqa. Unfortunately, democratic systems have never been implemented in the Middle East and Syria; all systems implemented (in the Middle East) have been religious and nationalist. These systems are incompatible with the reality of the Middle Eastern society and the Syrian people.”

The revolution has created personalities who choose to resist and rise up against all forms of oppression, Edalet Omer emphasized, adding:

“Nationalist, religious and sexist systems are the most dangerous and ultimate form of the state because they are the systems division — they create territory, borders and differences among nations. The revolution has created personalities that rise up against the tyranny and oppression of the regime and fight for a free and equal life.”

‘The Democratic Nation System has developed rapidly’

The system built in North and East Syria has developed rapidly because it is appropriate to the history, nature and reality of its people, Edalet Omer stressed. “The interim government that took over Syria following the fall of the Baathist regime in Syria has been imposing a sectarian system for its own interests and violently pursuing immoral and anti-democratic practices, increasing dissatisfaction among people against the government. Following the massacres in Syria’s coastal areas and Sweida city, the purpose of this government has become clear. Many women were raped and kidnapped in Syria’s coastal areas and the whereabouts of these women is still unknown. How will such a mindset bring hope and security to Syria? The interim government fails to meet expectations; it aims to implement a uniform ideology.”

‘Women will protect Syria’

Women will lead peace in Syria and end the war, Edalet Omer said and continued as follows:

“While massacres were committed in Syria’s coastal areas and Sweida city, the Autonomous Administration was the party that tried to protect, support and provide assistance to the people because we are all Syrian people. The people believe that the Autonomous Administration will protect Syria. Therefore, we, as women, must build our unity and explain our system to all the Syrian people. Those who can bring peace to Syria are women; they have the power to solve all problems faced by their society and themselves. The more women can protect themselves, the more they can protect society.”

‘Leader Apo says we must believe in women’s justice’

Women always defend justice, Edalet Omer said, “The interim government violates women’s rights, preventing them from participating in all facets of life. It acts according to its own interests, instead of solving women's problems. It aims to confine women to home. Leader Apo says we must believe in women’s justice. Justice is one of the characteristics of women, so women are the ones who bring justice and peace.”

Edalet Omer emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity of Syrian women and said:

“As a first and important step, women should unite and determine a roadmap for all Syrian women against the constitutional declaration (approved by the interim government) that ignores women. The Social Contract of North and East Syria is a draft of democracy and justice for Syria.”

Edalet Omer concluded her speech by calling on all Syrian people, especially women, to unite against hate speech on social media platforms against North and East Syria. “A smear campaign has been carried out against North and East Syria. It is an attack on the Democratic Nation system. Our society should be aware and conscious of the purpose of this campaign.”
