Amed – Last night, hundreds of women marched led by Dicle Amed Women’s Platform in Amed (Diyarbakır) despite police blockage to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Women of all ages took part in the march.
Police officers had to take a step back
Women holding banners about Deniz Poyraz and the deepening economic crisis stopped by police for hours due to the police blockage due to their banners and slogans. The women were subjected to violence by police on the day for the elimination of violence against women.
“Women will destroy this fascist system”
“We are here as rising women. We are not individuals but women. We are here with the anger and rising of women. We protest the male-dominant state. We protest the judicial system protecting the killers of women. We are here as women condemned to poverty and misery. We don’t remain silent, bow down and we are not afraid. You cannot silence us. You should know that women will destroy the AKP and this fascist system,” said one of the women, who reacted to police blockage.
Women were angry
Citizens also supported the protest of women by chanting slogans. “We will prevail by resisting” the women shouted. The slogans shouted by the women, who were angry due to the increasing violence against women, femicide, and deepening economic crisis in the country, echoed through the streets.
