Baghdad – The rate of femicide is very high in Iraq, where the rate of suspicious deaths of women is increasing. Yesterday, two sisters reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from a bridge in Baghdad, Iraq. The two sisters were rescued by the river police. According to reports we received from the police, the two sisters are in good condition and they have been taken to a safe place.
“Two sisters attempted suicide are in their 20s. According to reports, they wanted to kill themselves due to family problems. The Ministry of Interior says that they will fulfill their responsibilities and states that they will shed light on this issue,” one of our sources in Baghdad told us.
"Weak laws pave the way for suicide"
“In Iraq, women live under great psychological pressure. The reason for this pressure is customs and traditions. These things happen because the laws protecting women are very weak. This situation drives women to suicide. We need laws to prevent domestic violence,” Women's Rights Activist and politician Rezan Shex Dler said, “Women should demand their rights not to commit suicide.”
