“Women’s Counseling Center” to be opened in Patnos
Müşerref Geçer, co-mayor of Patnos Municipality, noted that they will open “Women’s Counseling Center” in the Patnos district of Ağrı in order to make the district a center for women.

Agırî –Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) won the Patnos Municipality in the local elections held in March 2019. The municipality has worked to reintegrate women into society. The municipality administration has created employment areas for women and carried out many activities for women to reach all women in the district. Now, they are working on opening a women’s counseling center in the district. Müşerref Geçer, co-mayor of Patnos Municipality, stated that they plan to find solutions to women's problems under the umbrella of the center.
Purple Hotline solves problems faced by women
Emphasizing that they have carried out many works for women since they won the municipality, Müşerref Geçer said, “We have carried out many works for women since we won the municipality. We have received many positive feedbacks from our society. We also formed established our women's directorate regarding the problems and demands of women. We have a purple hotline to reach the women, who face problems but cannot come to the municipality. In addition, we have jinkart (women’s card) system for women to use free public transport twice a week.
Women’s Counseling Center to be opened
Indicating that women are isolated from society in Patnos and that they are struggling against it, Müşerref Geçer said that they work to make the district a center of women. “Women have faced more problems during the Covid-19 pandemic so we will open a women’s counseling center to support women.”
Courses for women and children
“We try to support women by creating spaces outside of houses,” Müşerref Geçer said, “We have created employment areas for women. Patnos has a feudal society. We have held many activities to socialize women. We are working on opening a Women’s Counseling Center to reach more women. We will open the center in the upcoming months. We will support women who suffer from violence both financially and morally. We will organize courses for women and children. We aim to touch the lives of women with our courses.”
“We will take to the streets on November 25”
Müşerref Geçer also told us that they, as women, will take to the streets on November 25. “When we won the municipality, we saw that women were confined to home. But we managed to reintegrate women into society. We organize many events on November 25. Our program will last a week and we believe that women of Patnos will join the events with enthusiasm.”
