Women of Sweida: The injustice and oppression must stop

“Enough is enough! The injustice and oppression must stop,” said Shahira Tarudi, who participated in the peaceful protests in Sweida that have continued for two months.

Sweida- The peaceful protests erupted in the Druze majority city of Sweida over the high inflation rate and deteriorating economic situation in Syria on August 17, 2023 continue on their second months. One of the demands of the protesters is the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 to end the 12-year-old Syrian crisis.

Shahira Tarudi, one of the protesters, thinks women have many reasons to participate in the protests. “Women should play their role in society,” she said, “We demand the empowerment of women in all facets of life and the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254. Enough is enough! The injustice and oppression must stop.” Noting that the protesters would continue to demand a democratic and peaceful change, she added, “These protests are peaceful protests, we do not want a single drop of blood to be shed anymore.”
