Women of Rojhelat: Where is Verishe Moradi?

Women’s rights defenders in Rojhelat called on all women to support the campaign demanding the release of KJAR member Verishe Moradi, who was arrested and taken to an unknown location by IRGC on August 1.

Urmia- No news has been received from Verishe Moradi, a member of the East Kurdistan Free Women Society (KJAR), since she was arrested and taken to an unknown location by the members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj on August 1, 2023. According to some sources, she has been held in a prison and deprived of her right to communicate with the outside world, health and counsel.

‘We demand immediate release of Verishe Moradi’

Women’s rights defenders in Rojhelat (Eastern Kurdistan or Iranian Kurdistan) have launched a campaign demanding immediate release of Verishe Moradi. “As women, we are subjected to unjust practices of the regime. Every day, women are arrested and face imprisonment in the country. Verishe Moradi is an activist and her place is not in prison. We have launched a campaign called, ‘Where is Verishe Moradi?’ and we call on all women to support our campaign and be in solidarity with us. We demand immediate release of Verishe Moradi,” the campaigners told NuJINHA.

 ‘We will not remain silent’

A female journalist in Rojhelat, who asked us not to use her name due to security reasons, said that the arrest of Verishe Moradi is a threat to women's freedom. “Her right to communicate with the outside world, her right to health and counsel must be ensured. We will keep making efforts for her release. We will not remain silent against rights violations faced by Verishe Moradi. Her arrest is a crime against women’s struggle for freedom.”
