Kobanê- Since October 5, the Turkish state has been intensifying its attacks on North and East Syria. The genocidal attacks of the Turkish state have targeted the infrastructure and power plants to displace the people of the region. In an interview with NuJINHA, women of Kobanê, who were on the frontline of the revolution, expressed their reaction to the ongoing Turkish attacks.

 ‘We resisted despite everything’

Semîra Ehmed, one of the resisting women of Kobanê, said, “The Turkish state has been trying to destroy our revolution and annihilate our people for 11 years. Some days, we found no food, water and electricity. We resisted and grew our revolution despite everything. Therefore, the Turkish state began to carry out its genocidal attacks against us. The Turkish attacks cannot displace us.”

Semîra Ehmed underlined that they were ready to pay the price in order to protect their revolution. “We should be ready for everything. Despite the Turkish airstrikes, people move on. They stay in their homeland, our organizations are open. I think this shows that the attacks have no effect on our will and faith.”

‘The Turkish state bears hostility against the Kurdish people’

Another woman of Kobanê, Fatma Xelîl told us that the people of Kobanê would not leave their homes again. “The Turkish state keeps carrying out its genocidal attacks because it bears hostility against the Kurdish people. In its attacks, the Turkish state targets the revolution of the Kurdish people. We have gained many experiences for 11 years. This revolution would have failed if the Kurdish people did not have a strong will. When ISIS attacked Kobanê in 2014, our city was razed to the ground. We returned to our homeland and rebuilt our life after our city was liberated from ISIS. We will not leave our homeland again.”

‘We will live and die with dignity’

Fatma Xelîl thinks the Turkish state has no tolerance against the resistance in North and East Syria. “The resistance led by women irritates the Turkish state. The Turkish state uses all kinds of methods against us; it carries out ground and air attacks, it sends its factions to our region, it invades our living spaces. Despite everything, we keep existing. The Turkish state now targets the infrastructure of the region to break our will. The Turkish state should know that it cannot break our will and weaken us. We will live and die with dignity.”

‘We will not leave our home’

Emîne Mehmûd thinks the Turkish attacks on the infrastructure of the region are actually the attacks on the citizens of the region. “For almost a week, our region has been targeted by Turkish warplanes and drones. We do not deny that we are afraid of these attacks, but we will not leave our home. This region is our region and we have the right to live here. The Turkish state will pay for its attacks, maybe not today but it will definitely pay tomorrow.”

‘The international community remains silent against the crimes’

Emîne Mehmûd told us that civilians were targeted by the Turkish warplanes and drones. “The Turkish warplanes and drones target power plants, oil fields, grain warehouses and factories. Despite that, the international community remains silent against the crimes committed by the Turkish state. We have gone through much more difficult situations. We paid a high price during the revolution. As women, we led this revolution and we will not allow it to be damaged. We will resist to the end.”
