Hasakah-On Sunday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) declared a general mobilization in response to the attacks of Turkish-backed factions on Shahba/Afrin canton of North and East Syria. Following the declaration, women of Hasakah took to the streets to defend their neighborhoods.

‘Defending the revolution is a conscientious duty’

“The Turkish forces and Turkish-backed factions have been carrying out attacks on North and East Syria while our defense forces and people have been displaying a historic resistance in Shahba, Aleppo and Sheikh Maqsoud,” said Nisrîn Silêman, a resident of Hasakah’s Mufti neighborhood. “We have been going through a very sensitive process and we cannot have a peaceful life in such a sensitive process. We are amid wars and we have to position ourselves for self-defense. The revolution in Rojava led by women brought great gains and now is the time to protect these gains. Defending the revolution is a conscientious duty for us, the women of Hasakah.”

‘We believe in our own power’

Pointing to the role of the international forces in the attacks, she said, “We are aware of all the plans against us. Therefore, we do not expect any state to protect or save us. We believe in our own power and will. We rebuilt Kobanê and Aleppo and we will resist and rebuild them again.”

Call on the Kurdish people to rise up

Hediya Mihemed, another woman of Hasakah, called on the Kurdish people to rise up against the recent attacks on North and East Syria. We must heed the call for public mobilization in order to respond to war policies. A dirty war has been waged against our existence, our organization, our philosophy. All states unite and make plans against our cause. All people must defend their houses, neighborhoods, cities and country to respond to these plans. The Kurdish people must rise up and unite everywhere. The women of Haskah defeated ISIS and we will defend our revolution. We are ready to do anything to defend our people and homeland.”
