Women of Giresun: Women's resistance in Iran inspires us
Giresun Women’s Platform members condemned the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in Iran and said that the ongoing women’s resistance despite the attacks of the Iranian regime inspires them.
News Center- The Giresun Women’s Platform issued a press statement at the Atatürk Square to condemn the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini and the increasing number of femicide cases in the Espiye district of Giresun province. The statement was read by Iraz Şükran Hindpak, a member of the platform. She said that a man named Nuri Çamur killed three women in the district on September 23. Six women were killed in Giresun in the last eight months, 292 women were killed in Turkey in the last nine months, the statement said.
“Their resistance encourages us”
Mentioning the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini in Iran, the statement said, “Thousands of people began to take to the streets across Iran in protest to defend their rights and to resist male-dominant justice. However, women continue to be killed by the male-dominant regime in protests. Iranian women declare that they do not want to wear hijab and the Sharia regime. They keep resisting although the soldiers of the regime open fire on them. Their resistance encourages us. Iranian Sharia law oppresses women and blocks women from living freely. Women are executed in the country. Today, women resist by taking a risk.”
“We will not keep silent”
In the statement, the platform called on women to unite against all forms of violence. “We will not keep silent until women speak and live freely, until they make their own decisions.”
