Amed – Women of Amed will kick off their activities on November 18 to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25. Under the leadership of Dicle Amed Women's Platform (DAKAP) and Diyarbakır Network against Violence, women will hold many activities and events for a week. The women will send postcards to women prisoners, visit Emine Şenyaşar and the women, who have held the Justice Watch demanding the release of sick prisoners and the prisoners, who are not released despite having completed their sentences, hold commemorations for Nagihan Akarse, who was killed in Sulaymaniyah and for Jina Mahsa Amini, who was killed in Iran and stage theatre performances. On November 25, they will hold a mass march with the motto, “Against fascism and femicide, it's time for women's freedom. The women aim to reach all women in the city.

“It’s time to raise our voices”

Ayşe Kuran Çiçek, secretary of the Tüm Bel-Sen Kadın (Union of All Municipality Women Civil Servants), called on all women to attend the activities. Underlining that since the Mirabal sisters, the women’s struggle has always fought femicide and gender-based violence, she emphasized that women have been waging a great struggle against the policies causing femicide and gender-based violence. “After the murder of both Nagihan Akarsel in Sulaymaniyah and Jina Mahsa Amini in Iran, the world has experienced a women's resistance that has created a domino effect. Women all over the world have shown their solidarity with the women resisting in Iran. For this reason, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is very important for us this year. It’s time to raise our voices against the governments and regimes that ignore women’s will.”

They will draw attention to the increase in femicide cases

Noting that 25 November is of great importance against the attacks on women's bodies and willpower in the 21st century, Ayşe Kuran Çiçek said, “Women all around the world have chanted the slogan, ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’. This slogan unites women all over the world. As the women of Amed, we will grow our struggle with this slogan. As in the rest of the world, femicide cases increase here day by day. According to the released reports, dozens of women are killed in Turkey every month. There is a legal system in Turkey that paves the way for femicide. We will raise our voices against this system on November 25. Our women friends are arrested for demanding human rights; women journalists are arrested for their reports, we will raise our voices against the arrests of women.”

Call on women against state-male violence

Drawing attention to femicide cases and special war policies in the region, she called on the Kurdish women to take to the streets against these policies. “We know that the women living in Kurdistan face different forms of violence because they face both male violence and state violence. We say that women in the region are killed by both men and the state. The killing of İpek Er reveals this. We think women should take to the streets to protest state-male violence. We will visit women everywhere. We aim to reach all women. We call on all women of Amed to join our activities to raise their voices.”
