During the march from Salim Street to Azadî Park, women chanted many slogans such as, “‘Jin Jiyan Azadî” and “Women are life, do not kill life”.
Holding posters of the leading figures of the Kurdish Women's Freedom Movement, the women promised to resist the patriarchal system, femicide, gender-based violence and occupation.
‘Our resistance against femicide, gender-based violence and occupation will continue’
Suham Mehmud made a speech on behalf of the RJAK. “March 8 is a day of resistance against the patriarchal mentality, gender-based violence and femicide across the world. In the Kurdistan Region, we, as women, are subjected to male violence and femicide while our country is under the threat of invasion by the Turkish state. Hundreds of people lost their lives in the earthquakes that occurred on February 6. Despite this disaster, the Turkish state carried out its genocidal attacks against the Kurdish people and threatened to invade our country,” Suham Mehmud said in her speech.
They saluted the revolution in Rojhilat
Noting that their resistance against femicide, gender-based violence and occupation would continue, the marchers drew attention to the importance of women’s unity.
In speeches, the women saluted the revolution led by women chanting the slogan “Jin Jiyan Azadî” in Rojhilat and promised to resist to the end.
