Damascus- The Syrian Women’s Political Movement held a meeting in Damascus, the capital of Syria, on January 9 to discuss women’s roles in all facets of life, including politics and social life in the new Syria. At the meeting, women discussed how to empower women and their roles in the future.

 Participants expressed their opinions

At the meeting, the participants also discussed the challenges faced by women in Syria due to the ongoing political, social and economic crises suffered by the country. “Promoting women’s political participation” is needed to strengthen women’s role in society,” the participants said, stressing that women should participate in peacebuilding efforts and decision-making positions.

The participants suggested that awareness-raising activities must be carried out for women so that they can participate in politics and social life more effectively.

Another issue discussed at the meeting was women's economic empowerment. “Women entrepreneurs and small projects of women, especially in rural and war-torn areas, must be supported to promote women’s economic empowerment,” the participants said.

A support network to be formed

At the end meeting, the participants decided to form a women’s support network to carry out awareness-raising activities, promote women’s participation both in politics and social life, protect women’s rights and combat discrimination.
