Women bid farewell to Nagihan Akarsel
Nagihan Akarsel, member of Jineology Academy and editor of Jineology magazine, was sent off on her last journey on the shoulders of women.
News Center - Jineology Academy member and Jineology magazine editor Nagihan Akarsel, who was assassinated in Sulaymaniyah on October 4, was bid farewell to her last journey on the shoulders of women in the Gölyazı (Xelikan) town of Konya’s Cihanbeyli yesterday.
After the autopsy procedures, her body was sent to her hometown and women carried her coffin on their shoulders until the cemetery.
Gendarmerie tried to prevent women
The gendarmerie tried to prevent women from carrying the photos of Nagihan Akarsel during the funeral ceremony. But women resisted and carried her photos. Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Women’s Council Spokesperson Ayşe Acar Başaran made a short speech during the ceremony on behalf of the women holding placards reading, “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Women, Life, Freedom)”.
“We are all Nagihan. Nagihan was killed but as her comrades, we will take over her legacy and continue her struggle until the end,” Ayşe Acar Başaran said in her speech.
Carnation and purple scarf…
Nagihan Akarsel was sent off on her last journey after religious rituals. The women left carnations and a purple scarf on her grave. The Akarsel family accepts condolences at their home.
