News Center- Last night, a woman was shot to death in the Zanko neighborhood of Duhok, a city in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, by an unidentified person or persons.

 The Police Directorate of Duhok released a statement about the killing of the woman. The statement said that the woman was 32 years old and the mother of three and the perpetrator or perpetrators have not been arrested yet. The police directorate also said in the statement that an investigation has been launched into the incident.

Due to the laws protecting and justifying men in the Kurdistan Region, the cases of femicide and gender-based violence have been increasing. According to the report released by the Women's Legal Assistance Organization, 13,584 cases of violence against women were recorded in 2021 and 15, 897 cases in 2022.
