Kobanê – In many countries of the world, especially in the Middle East, women’s rights are violated by the patriarchal systems of sovereign powers. The Turkish state also violates women’s rights in the occupied cities of Afrin, Serêkanîyê, Girê Spî, Bab, Ezaz and Jarablus.

In an interview with NuJINHA, Macîde Hesûn, coordinating member of the Kongra Star in the Euphrates Region of North and East Syria, talked about rights violations against women in the occupied areas.

‘Women are killed due to the patriarchal systems of sovereign powers’

Emphasizing that women are killed due to the patriarchal systems of sovereign powers, she said, “These systems carry out attacks on women’s identity. Throughout history, female philosophers, academics, creators and pioneers were killed under different excuses, and this situation continues today.”

‘Women in the occupied areas have been detached from life’

Highlighting that the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions occupied many areas with the same mindset, she said, “We can imagine the inhuman living conditions of the women living in Afrin, Serêkanîyê, Girê Spî, Bab, Ezaz and Jarablus. In North and East Syria, women have played an active role in all facets of life. They can make decisions about themselves, their lives and their society. While the women in North and East Syria try to get rid of the oppression of the nation-state system, women living in the occupied areas face different forms of oppression. They have been detached and isolated from life. This is a genocide against women. This genocide is not only a physical genocide but also a psychological genocide.”

She also highlighted that the Turkish state and Turkish-backed factions have imposed an isolation on the women living in the occupied areas. “Every day, women are killed, raped, kidnapped, tortured and forced into marriage. Therefore, the situation in the occupied areas is serious and dangerous.”

‘We should take an immediate action’

In her speech, Macîde Hesûn called on all women’s organizations and movements to “take an immediate action for the women living in the occupied areas. We should support the women of Sweida demanding freedom for women in the occupied areas.”
