Verdict in Kobanê Trial

The verdict in the Kobanê Trial was announced yesterday.

News Center-The final hearing of the Kobanê Trial  against 108 politicians, including former Co-Chairs of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş, for the protests ISIS attacks on Kobanê on 6-8 October 2014, was held on Thursday.

As the court announced the verdict, the people in the courtroom protested the prison sentence given to the politicians by chanting the “Long live the resistance of the HDP” slogan.

The verdict announced by the court is as follows:

Ahmet Türk: He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for “membership in an illegal organization.”

Ali Ürküt: The aggravated life sentence given to him was first reduced to 16 years in prison, then to 13 years and four months for his behavior during the trial process. The court ruled the continuation of his imprisonment.

Alp Altınörs: He has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state” without a discretionary reduction. He has also been sentenced to four years and six months for “incitement to commit an offence”.

Altan Tan: He has been acquitted of all accusations.

Ayhan Bilgen: He has been acquitted of all accusations.

Ayla Akat Ata: She has been sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison for “membership of an illegal organization”. Considering the duration of her detention, the court ruled for her release.

Aynur Aşan: She has been sentenced to nine years on charges of "membership in an illegal organization". The court ruled the continuation of her imprisonment.

Aysel Tuğluk: She has been acquitted of the “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state” accusation.

Ayşe Yağcı: She has been sentenced to nine years for "membership in an illegal organization". Considering the duration of her detention, the court ruled for her release.

Bülent Parmaksız: He has been sentenced to a total of 23 years in prison on multiple charges and the continuation of his imprisonment was ruled by the court.

Dilek Yağlı: She was sentenced to 16 years in prison. She was also sentenced to two years in prison on charges of “incitement to commit an offence”. The sentence was increased to four years and six months in prison. The court ruled the continuation of her imprisonment.

Emine Ayna: She has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on the charge of “membership in an illegal organization”

Beyza Üstün: She has been acquitted of “disrupting the unity and integrity of the state”. The court ruled to lift the judicial control measures against her.

Figen Yüksekdağ: She has been sentenced to 19 years in prison with no reduction. It was decided to continue her detention. She has been given a prison sentence for “membership of an illegal organization and leading an illegal organization”. She has been sentenced to an additional prison term of four years and six months on charges of “incitement”, and of one year and six months on charges of “propagandizing for an illegal organization”. She has been sentenced to a total of 32 years and nine months in prison over various charges.

Gülfer Akkaya: She has been acquitted of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state” charges. The court ruled to lift the judicial control measures against her.

Gültan Kışanak: She has been sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of “membership in an illegal organization”. The court ruled her release from prison.

Günay Kubilay: He has been sentenced to a total of 20 years and six months in prison. The court ruled the continuation of his imprisonment.

İsmail Şengül: He has been sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison. He will remain in prison.  

İbrahim Binici: He has been acquitted.

Meryem Adıbelli: She has been sentenced to nine years in prison. The court ruled her release from prison.

Mesut Bağcık: He has been sentenced to nine years in prison. The judicial control measures against him were lifted.

Nazmi Gür: The aggravated life imprisonment sentence given to him has been reduced to 18 years imprisonment. He has also been sentenced to four years and six months in prison on charges of “incitement to commit an offence”.

Pervin Oduncu: The aggravated life sentence given to her has been reduced to 18 years. The court ruled the continuation of her imprisonment.

Sebahat Tuncel: She was first sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of “membership in an illegal organization". Then, the prison sentence was increased to 12 years. Considering the duration of her detention, the court ruled for her release.

Selahattin Demirtaş: He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of “aiding to disrupt the unity and integrity of the state" and to four years and six months in prison on charges of “incitement to commit an offence". He has been also sentenced to two years and six months for his speech at the Newroz celebrations on March 21, 2016 and to one year and six months on charges of "inciting people to disobey the law" in his speech in Diyarbakır on  February 29, 2016. The court ruled the continuation of his imprisonment.

Sibel Akdeniz: She has been acquitted.

Sırrı Süreyya Önder: He has been acquitted of all allegations against him.

Zeki Çelik: He was first sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charges of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". The sentence was reduced to 18 years. He has also been sentenced to four years and six months on charges of "incitement to crime".

 

Zeynep Karaman: She was first sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charges of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the state". The sentence was reduced to 18 years. She has also been sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment on charges of "incitement to crime".

 

Zeynep Ölbeci: She has been sentenced to a total of 12 years and nine months in prison on charges of "disrupting the unity and integrity of the country" and "membership in an illegal organization". The court ruled the continuation of her imprisonment.

Five women released

Gültan Kışanak, Sabahat Tuncel, Ayla Akat, Ayşe Yağcı and Meryem Adıbelli were released from prison after the announcement of the verdict.
