UN Report:Gaza the Deadliest Location for Humanitarian Workers

A new UN report reveals that Gaza accounted for over 53% of global humanitarian worker deaths last year,with 186 out of 350 casualties recorded in the sector.

News Center_Humanitarian workers in conflict zones face escalating risk that threaten their lives, amid increasing direct attacks on relief teams and medical staff, making humanitarian work one of the most dangerous professions in global hotspots.

A new report issued by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs(OCHA) yesterday, Monday,August 17, stated that Gaza wast the deadliest location for humanitarian workers over the past year, with its victims accounting for more than half of the total global deaths in this sector.Figures indicate that 186 out of 350 humanitarian workers were killed in Gaza.

Data indicates that the sector accounted for more than53% of total recorded deaths among humanitarian workers globally, making it the most dangerous hotspot for aid providers' lives at present.

Since the outbreak of war in Gaza, UN reports and international human rights organizations have documented a recurring pattern of direct targeting of medical staff and rescue teams in the Gaza Strip, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of health and relief workers and their facilities during armed conflicts.

According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1000 attacks on healthcare facilities in Gaza were recorded, leading to the near_complete paralysis of the remaining hospitals' capacity.

Palestinian and international records have documented the killing of more than 1,172 health personnel, including 115 doctors and 290 nurses, in addition to documented cases of arrest and torture of workers in this sector. UN experts have described this systematic destruction of Gaza's health system as constituting the crime of "medicide," given its deliberate and sustained nature.
