News Center — Damascus is recording a rise in homicides recently, amid growing anxiety among residents over the expanding circle of violence, while sources point to an increase in incidents linked to robbery and personal disputes under difficult living conditions.
A new homicide has shaken the city of Daraya in Reef Damascus, following the discovery of the bodies of two sisters and a 12-year-old girl inside an apartment located near the "Al-Namous Gas Station," an incident that sparked widespread concern among residents as crime rates continue to rise in the country.
Local sources reported that residents of the area discovered the bodies inside the home this morning, Friday, July 10, before the competent authorities initiated preliminary investigation procedures. Initial investigations showed that the victims sustained multiple stab wounds with a sharp object to various parts of their bodies, leading to their immediate death.
Preliminary information also revealed the possibility that the crime was committed with the motive of robbery, while the authorities have not yet announced any suspects.
Following the incident, security forces cordoned off the crime scene and began gathering evidence and lifting fingerprints in an attempt to identify the perpetrators and track the course of the crime, amid popular demands to strengthen security measures in the area.
This crime comes in the context of a notable escalation in criminal offense rates across various Syrian cities. According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the number of recorded crimes since the beginning of this year has reached 257, claiming the lives of 284 people, including 227 men, 19 children, and 38 women, reflecting the expanding circle of violence, the proliferation of weapons, and the deteriorating living conditions in the country.
