Two Iranian women journalists win 2023 International Press Freedom Award

Iranian journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi have won the 2023 International Press Freedom Award of the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression.

News Center- Iranian journalists Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, who have been behind bars in Iran, have won the 2023 International Press Freedom Award of the Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) for their courage and serve as a reminder of both the power of the press and the fragility of its freedom.

 On February 15, Niloofar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi will receive an International Press Freedom Award from Canadian Journalists for Free Expression, which has a 40-year-history of advocating for the rights of journalists and a free press, both at home and abroad. The award will be presented in absentia to honor the journalists’ courage.

Niloofar Hamedi broke the news that Jina Mahsa Amini was on life support in a Tehran hospital after being beaten while in police custody. She was arrested on September 21, 2022. On September 29, 2022, Elahe Mohammadi was arrested soon after reporting from Jina Mahsa Amini’s funeral in Saqqez.
