Turkish state carries out 14 attacks on Makhmour in last 5 years

The Turkish state carried out at least 14 attacks on the Makhmour refugee camp in the last five years, with the cooperation of the KDP and the Iraqi government.

Makhmour-The Turkish policies aiming at annihilating and ignoring the Kurdish people continue. In the 1990s, thousands of Kurdish people were forcibly displaced from their homeland in Northern Kurdistan due to the attacks of the Turkish state. After changing seven camps, they settled in the Makhmour Martyr Rustem Cudi Camp (Makhmour Refugee Camp) in 1998. However, they have been subjected to the Turkish attacks on the camp.

Since 2017, the Turkish state has targeted the camp by using its drones. The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has imposed an embargo on the camp since 2019.

Türkiye carried out at least 14 attacks on the Makhmour refugee camp in the last five years, with the cooperation of the KDP and the Iraqi government.

14 attacks carried out by the Turkish state on the camp in the last five years are as follows:

*On July 18, 2019, a Turkish airstrike targeted the camp, injuring two civilians.

*On April 15, 2020, Turkish drones targeted the camp, killing three young women.

*On July 15, 2020, Turkish airstrikes on the camp, Mount Qarachogh and Mishtenûr region. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

*On May 5, 2021, Turkish drones bombed the center of the camp, injuring a mother and her child.

*On February 1, 2022, Turkish airstrikes targeted the camp, killing two fighters of the People's Defense Forces and injuring many civilians.

*On May 21, 2022, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle in the camp, killing a citizen named Hecî Mîrza Elî.

*On July 5, 2022, Turkish drones targeted a house in the camp, injuring a civilian.

*On August 29, 2022, a Turkish drone targeted a house in the camp, killing a citizen named Ebûzêt Abdullah Dêrhînî, a father of six.

*On December 27, 2023, the Iraqi army attempted to surround the camp with wire fences. The residents of the camp resisted them and did not allow them to surround the camp with wire fences.

*On May 20, 2023, the Iraqi army tried to surround the camp with wire fences and concrete blocks again. The residents of the camp have been resisting the Iraqi army for 16 days. Their resistance forced the Iraqi government to withdraw its army.

*On October 7, 2023, a Turkish drone targeted the mosque in the camp, injuring one woman and two children.

*On October 13, 2023, a Turkish drone targeted a house in the camp, injuring one women.

*On October 17, 2023, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle belonging to a family from the Makhmour refugee camp near the Koye town of Erbil, killing a young person named Dilovan Îşlek and injuring three women.

*On September 10, 2024, a Turkish drone targeted a house belonging to the Peace Mothers movement in the camp, injuring three members of the movement named Gulê Özek, Edîbe Paksoy and Ezime Kabul.

*On September 16, 2024, a Turkish drone targeted a civilian house in the camp. No casualties reported.
