News Center- The fourth hearing in the trial against journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu, Co-chair of the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association and editor of Mesopotamia Agency (MA), was held at the Diyarbakır 5th High Criminal Court on Thursday.

Standing trial on charges of “membership in an illegal organization” and “leading an illegal organization”, Dicle Müftüoğlu and her lawyers were present at the hearing. The hearing was monitored by the Dicle Fırat Journalists Association, the Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA), Human Rights Watch (HRW) Türkiye director Emma Sinclair-Webb, DİSK Basın-İş Amed (Diyarbakır) Regional Representative Hakkı Boltan, lawyer Ezio Menzione of PEN Norway and many journalists.

Final hearing on October 24

At the hearing, journalist Dicle Müftüoğlu repeated her previous defenses while the prosecutor submitted the opinion, requesting a prison sentence for the journalist on charges of “membership in an illegal organization”. The judge postponed the hearing to October 24, 2024 so that the journalist and her lawyers prepare a defense against the opinion, ruling on the continuation of the travel ban imposed on the journalist.
