Tunisia: 31.6 percent of women subjected to violence in 2021
Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) announced the rate of violence against women in Tunisia; 31.6 percent of women were subjected to violence the first half of this year, 48 percent of women were subjected to violence only in June.
Tunisia- The violence against women cases have been increasing all over the world. Coordinator of the Social Observatory under the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) Najla Arfa made a statement on violence against women cases in Tunisia based on the data of the Tunisian Social Observatory. “We live in a country which encourages its citizens to inflict violence,” Najla Arfa said.
Pointing out that women are the first victims of all forms of violence in Tunisia, Najla Arfa said, “31.6 percent of women were subjected to violence the first half of 2021, and 48.4 percent of women were subjected to violence only in June.”
According to official data, violence against women cases in Tunisia increased by 64.5 percent in June. 12.9 percent of these violence cases were recorded as institutional violence and 6.5 percent as political violence. 21 percent of women were subjected to domestic violence.
The Tunisian Social Observatory was founded by the Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights (FTDES) in 2013 to carry out studies about the rights of women, refugees and migrants and human rights.
