Torch march by women of Shengal against attacks
The women of Shengal held a torch march to protest the ongoing Turkish attacks on Shengal and call on the Iraqi government to close its airspace to Turkey.
Shengal (Sinjar)- The Turkish state continues to attack Shengal by using drones. Despite the attacks, the Iraqi government has not closed its airspace to Turkey. On October 29, the Turkish drones targeted a house in Xanasor. Yesterday, the members of the Shengal Young Women’s Union and mothers held a torch march in Xanasor to condemn the drone attack. The march started in front of the building of the Xanasor Peoples’ Assembly and ended in front of the house, which was targeted in the drone attack. During the march, the members of the Shengal Young Women’s Union and Yazidi Asayish members carried posters of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
“We will defend our region to the end”
After the march, a statement was read by the Shengal Young Women’s Union. “As Yazidi community, we will not remain silent against the attacks of the Turkish state, we will always resist. As Yazidi young people, we do not accept the dirty war methods used in our region. We will resist these methods to the end. We will not allow our region to be occupied. Neither Erdogan nor anyone else can break our will. We will defend our region to the end,” the statement said.
“Close the airspace to Turkey”
“The first thing that the new government established in Iraq must do is to close the airspace to Turkey,” said Rûşina Ebdullah, member of the Shengal Young Women’s Union. “As young women and men, we gathered here to protest the occupying forces. In addition, a new government has been formed in Iraq, the first thing that the new Iraqi government must do is to close the airspace to Turkey because the Turkish state carries out inhuman practice in the Iraqi territories.”
