Amed- Since the early morning, the people of Amed have been flocking to the Newroz Square in the city to join the Newroz celebration held with the mottos, “Everywhere Newroz, always freedom” and “Freedom with the fire of Newroz”.

The Newroz celebration is scheduled to start at 10:00 (Local time) at the Newroz Square. This year, Newroz celebrations are also held to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Maraş earthquakes.

Huge banners showing the photos of Jina Mahsa Amini, who was killed in custody by Iran’s so-called morality police on September 16, 2022, and Kemal Kurkut, who was shot to death during the Newroz celebration in Amed on March 21, 2017, were hung around the square.

Sometimes, tension rises when people enter the square because police try to prevent women wearing traditional dresses from entering the square. Despite everything, people continue to flock to the Newroz Square to celebrate Newroz.
