Shahba- In North and East Syria, women pioneers are targeted by patriarchal nation-states because women play an important role in building an equal life based on the Democratic Nation Project, which was put into practice after the revolution.  Women living in Afrin and Shahba Canton say the women, who played an important role in the revolution and rebuilding of life, are determined to resist.

‘We struggle for the freedom of all women’

Sevcan Xêlîl from Afrin Canton told us that March 8 is an important day for them. “Women lead revolutions and protests to achieve their legitimate rights and to ensure gender equality. The nation-states target women pioneers because they do not accept the leading role of women. We do not accept the unjust capitalist system. We, as women in Rojava, struggle for the freedom of all women,” she said.

‘We are determined to overcome all obstacles’

Heba Al-Siny from Shahba Canton said the reason why women pioneers are targeted in North and East Syria is “due to their fear of the idea of free women. The nation-states and patriarchal systems are afraid of the idea of free women.”

Majdolin Şêxo noted that sovereign countries and capitalist powers target the will and power of women, “But women keep resisting the patriarchal mentality and they will never accept injustice, oppression and massacres. We, as women, are determined to overcome all obstacles.”
