‘The aim of the attacks on Deir ez-Zor is to cause discord among regional dynamics’
The aim of the attacks of the Syrian government on Deir ez-Zor is to “cause discord among regional dynamics,” Syrian Democratic Council Co-chair Leyla Qahreman said, stressing that the solution should be “political, not military”.
RONIDA HACI
Hasakah- The Syrian government and pro-Syrian government armed groups have carried out attacks on the Deir ez-Zor Canton of North and East Syria since the beginning of August, killing 13 citizens and injuring 26 others. NuJINHA spoke to Leyla Qahreman, Co-chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), about the recent attacks on the canton.
‘The aim is to cause discord among regional dynamics’
The aim of the attacks is to cause discord among regional dynamics,” said Leyla Qahreman. “The recent attacks are a repeat of the scenario experienced in previous years. They previously attempted to cause discord and conflict among regional dynamics. They also want to destroy the security and gains of the people who have been fighting together for 13 years in northeastern Syria.”
‘The people affirm that the SDF is the force that will protect them’
The Syrian government wants Syria to return to how it was pre-2011, Leyla Qahreman said, “Our response is that it is impossible because the people living in Syria do not accept a system based on oppression and persecution. War, resistance, displacement and occupation have been going on for 13 years. The people of North and East Syria support the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and affirm that the SDF is the force that will protect them.
Call on the Syrian government
“As the Syrian Democratic Council, we call on the Syrian government to end its policies aiming at causing discord and conflict. The people are aware of these policies and oppose them. Syria needs a political solution, not a military. The unity and solidarity of political parties are a must for a solution. Therefore, we must put the current problems aside and discuss the unity and territorial integrity of Syria.”
