TAJÊ: Peace Conference Success Marks a Historic Turning Point for the Yazidi Community.
The Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) said the success of the peace process at the “Peace and the Democratic Society” conference marked a vital milestone for Yazidi women and community, supporting their causes and rights.
News Center – Over the past two days, Istanbul hosted the international conference “Peace and the Democratic Society,” organized by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM), with the participation of prominent political and academic figures from various countries. The conference discussed the peace process and the democratic society initiative launched by Leader Abdullah Öcalan, along with reviewing relevant global experiences.
The Yazidi Women’s Freedom Movement (TAJÊ) issued a statement today, Monday, December 8, regarding the international “Peace and the Democratic Society” conference held in Istanbul. The movement stated that the conference represented an important and highly valuable milestone for Yazidi women and the Yazidi community in general, as it carried messages supporting their causes and rights. It also provided an opportunity to express the aspirations of the Yazidi community toward peace and democracy, reflecting their determination to continue the struggle for freedom and justice.
The statement noted that the peoples of this land have witnessed a series of massacres and genocides throughout history, and that the Yazidi community in Mesopotamia has been subjected to 74 firmans (mass persecution campaigns), the most recent on August 3, 2014, a tragedy witnessed by the entire world in the 21st century. “Today, while peace issues are being discussed, thousands of Yazidis remain missing. Therefore, we affirm that peace is priceless, and that the right to live in peace is a fundamental human right guaranteed to all peoples,” the statement said.
The movement reaffirmed its continued support for the struggle for peace and the building of a democratic society, noting that the current phase represents a historic turning point. “The success of this process will bring a new breath of freedom to all humanity, and true peace is based on the foundations of a socialist life,” the statement added.
It further stressed that participatory democracy will be built through the unity of peoples and women, and that achieving this process means putting a final end to the firmans suffered by the Yazidi community throughout history. The statement emphasized that the success of this path requires recognition of Leader Abdullah Öcalan’s right to hope and the guarantee of his physical freedom, as this is an essential part of achieving just and comprehensive peace.
