Syrian Women's Council strengthens women’s political participation
The Syrian Women’s Council aims to empower women across Syria and to strengthen women’s participation in the decision-making process for the resolution of the Syrian crisis.

Raqqa- Aiming to build a democratic and ecological society, the Syrian Women’s Council makes efforts to ensure the rights of all women and strengthen women’s participation in the decision-making process for the resolution of the Syrian crisis. Founded on September 8, 2017, the council saying “Women face rights violations all around the world” carries out its activities not only in Syria but also in all Middle Eastern countries.
Suad al-Kurdi, one of the executives of the council, told NuJINHA that they want to build a democratic society respecting women’s rights. “We struggle against discrimination and sexism to ensure social justice. We strengthen women’s participation in all facets of life, especially in negotiation processes. We support women to participate in decision-making positions and in the resolution of the Syrian crisis.”
‘We aim to strengthen women’s political participation’
The council works coordinately with women’ organizations in Syria. “The council has members from all regions in Syria. These days, we have been holding meetings with women from tribes to tell them the aims and principles of the council. We support women to be more active in all facets of life. We make efforts to communicate with international women’s organizations in order to reach more women. We hold conferences, seminars, workshops to come together with women. The main aim of the council is to strengthen women’s political participation.”
Activities in al-Hol refugee camp
Hiba Muhammed, a member of the council, gave us information about their activities in refugee camps. The council has held meetings in al-Hol camp to raise awareness against child marriage and drug use. “We carry out activities in the camp to protect women and children from the brutal ideology of ISIS, to provide physiological support to them,” Hiba Muhammed
They will hold its congress
The Syrian Women’s Council has many committees supporting women and children and offices in Qamishlo, Hasakah, Kobanê, Raqqa and Manbij. In an interview with NuJINHA, Suhail Al-Sanuh said, “The Syrian Women Council held its first congress in Manbij in October 2018. It held its second congress in the Dirbasiyah town of Amuda. The council will hold its third congress soon. People from Europe and all cities of Syria will attend the congress.”
