Makhmour- Since December 8, 2024, the Turkish state has intensified its attacks on North and East Syria, especially the Tishreen Dam, while the people coming from different cities of North and East Syria have been holding a vigil on the dam to protest the ongoing attacks since January 8. The Turkish attacks targeting civilians holding the vigil on the dam have killed 16 people and injured more than 90 people.

Women living in the Makhmour refugee camp condemn the ongoing Turkish attacks targeting civilians on the dam.

“The Turkish state wants to take control of the dam,” said Taybet Sêrtî, a resident of the camp. “Despite all the attacks, the people keep holding their peaceful vigil on the dam. The Turkish attacks cannot intimidate us. The Turkish state will fail and the Kurdish people will prevail.”

‘We salute the resistance on the dam’

“As the women of the Makhmour refugee camp, we salute the resistance on the dam and express our support,” said Kerîman Kanat. “The aim of the Turkish state is to invade Rojava. I condemn the Turkish attacks targeting civilians and journalists.”

Call for unity

Kerîman Kanat called on the Kurds to unite against the ongoing Turkish attacks on Rojava. “The people of Rojava, who embrace the ideology and thoughts of leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan), have been waging a great resistance against the attacks. The enemy wants to break this resistance; however, the Turkish state will never achieve its goals. I call on all Kurdish people to unite and fight against the attacks.”
