Students in the Makhmur refugee camp say that they will break the isolation imposed upon Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan by strengthening their struggle and ensuring his physical freedom.

Mexmûr (Makhmur)- 24 years have passed since Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan was handed over to Turkey as a result of an international conspiracy on February 15, 1999. Since Abdullah Öcalan was taken to Turkey, an aggravated isolation has been imposed on him. No news has been received from him since March 25, 2021. Kurdish people and their friends have been taking to the streets all around the world to demand the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan. The students in the Makhmur refugee camp condemn the international conspiracy against Abdullah Öcalan on February 15, 1999 and say they are determined to struggle for his freedom.

 ‘I condemn the conspiracy’

Înana Yeman, one of the students, describes February 15 as “Dark day”. “February 15 is a black day for us because our leader was arrested on that day as a result of an international conspiracy. The Turkish state aims to destroy our culture, our flag, our people and our art. It aims to annihilate the Kurds by assimilating them. Our struggle for his physical freedom will continue. The dream of the Turkish state will never come true. We condemn the international conspiracy against our leader.”

 Call to break the isolation

Another student Amara Unver thinks the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan is imposed on all Kurdish women. “Leader Apo (Abdullah Öcalan) was handed over to Turkey as a result of an international conspiracy on February 15, 1999. The aim of the conspirators was to annihilate the Kurds on that day. Our leader has been held in an aggravated isolation for 24 years. No news has been received from leader Apo for two years. The isolation imposed on leader Apo is also imposed on all Kurdish women because leader Apo gives importance to women. We, as young women, will strengthen our struggle against isolation. We call on all young women to break the aggravated isolation imposed on leader Apo and ensure his physical freedom.”

‘We will strengthen our struggle’

Şîlan Bulut, another student in the camp, said, “We, as Kurdish people and young women, must strengthen our struggle to break the aggravated isolation imposed on leader Apo and to ensure his physical freedom.”
