The Şenyaşar family has been holding a sit-in protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse demanding justice for 673 days.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç (Kurdish: Pirsûs) district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 673rd day.

Today, Emine Şenyaşar stays at her home in Suruç due to her health problems. Therefore, her son Ferit Şenyaşar has held the sit-in protest in front of the courthouse alone.

‘We will maintain our just struggle’

Making a speech in front of the courthouse, Ferit Şenyaşar said that he would maintain their just struggle despite the deteriorating health condition of his mother. “Although the main perpetrator of the incident is a MP, his name is not mentioned in the indictment,” he said in his speech. Pointing to the hearing of the trial about the massacre that took place at the hospital to be held on January 17, 2023, Ferit Şenyaşar said, “Our main demand is that AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız, who instigated the massacre at the hospital, stands trial as a defendant. We will keep demanding this. The records of security cameras of the hospital are in the state’s archive. The records will be revealed when his MP process ends. We will wait for it. We will not sit at home. We will maintain our struggle by resisting.”

‘Justice for all journalists’

“Some words give strength to bear. Everyone says, ‘It is near’. Justice for all journalists imprisoned for their reports, Justice for Everyone,” the Şenyaşar family posted today on their social media account.
