Sit-in protest for justice enters its 577th day

The Şenyaşar family has held a sit-in protest in front of the Urfa Courthouse to demand justice for their killed relatives for 577 days.

Riha - The sit-in protest held in front of the Urfa Courthouse by Emine Şenyaşar, whose husband and two sons were murdered in the attack carried out by the relatives and bodyguards of AKP Urfa MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız in the Suruç district of Urfa province on June 14, 2018, and her son Ferit Şenyaşar has entered its 577th day

Today, Emine Şenyaşar has stayed at her home in Suruç due to her health problems. Her son Ferit Şenyaşar came in front of the courthouse in the morning to hold their sit-in protest for justice.

Police removed the banner

Ferit Şenyaşar hung a banner reading, “Justice for the Şenyaşar family, justice for everyone” on a concrete block in front of the courthouse; however, police tried to confiscate the banner after removing the banner. Reacting to the police intervention, Ferit Şenyaşar prevented police officers from confiscating it.

After holding the banner for a while, Ferit Şenyaşar hung the banner on the concrete block again. “Here is not your home,” police told Ferit Şenyaşar and tried to remove the banner again. Ferit Şenyaşar removed the banner on the concrete block and kept holding the protest by holding the banner.

“Our struggle for JUSTICE continues in front of the Şanlıurfa Courthouse with determination on its 577th day. We are grateful to everyone who is in solidarity with us. Solidarity keeps people alive, we demand a fair life and justice,” the Şenyaşar family wrote on their social media account today.
