Scottish Trades Union Congress to take action for Abdullah Öcalan
The Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) will organize events in October to demand freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
News Center- The Scottish Trades Unions Congress (STUC), representing over 550,000 workers through its 40 affiliated trade unions and 20 trade union councils, will organize events such as press conferences, panels and protests across Scotland between October 1-10 to demand freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
According to the daily newspaper Yeni Özgür Politiaka, the congress is getting ready to organize events in many countries such as Germany, France, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, England, Scotland, Sweden, Greece, Slovenia, Colombia and Cyprus to mark the second anniversary of the campaign demanding “freedom for Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and a political solution to the Kurdish question”.
Many events will be also held in the UK between October 1-10. The congress will hold a press conference at its headquarters on October 2, 2024. At the press conference, a letter written to UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy regarding the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan in the prison island of Imrali and the Kurdish question will be read.
In addition, organizations in four parts of Kurdistan will release a joint statement about the campaign. The Kurdish organizations will also hold protests in cities such as Liverpool, Bristol, Brighton, Sheffield, Exeter and Edinburgh.
