Makhmour- On May 20, the Iraqi army besieged the Makhmour refugee camp to surround the camp with wire fences and concrete blocks. The camp residents of all ages have been resisting the attempt of the Iraqi army by holding a tent protest in the camp. Despite the 30-year oppression and persecution, they never bow to anyone by resisting.

‘We will resist to the end’

Xerîç Şen has been at the frontline of the resistance in the camp for five days. “We have been living here for 25 years. We have not received any services from the Iraqi government until now. Now, they try to surround our camp with wire fences and concrete blocks,” said Xerîç Şen. “We will stand firm and will not allow them to oppress us. We will resist to the end. We will do our best against their attempt.”

‘We will never bow to the Iraqi government’

Another resident of the camp, Eyşê Arzu said, “Our stance is to resist to the end. They try to surround our camp with wire fences but we will never accept this. We have been living in this camp for years despite everything. The Iraqi government wants to surround the camp with wire fences because Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan asked them to do so. Now, the Iraqi government wants to do what he wants. We will resist as long as we can. Thanks to our resistance, victory will be ours.”
