Rate of femicide cases in Turkey increases by 88%

At least 275 women were killed in Turkey in the first 10 months of 2022, men killed at least 34 women, 26 more died under suspicious circumstances in October, according to the report released by the We Will Stop Femicide Platform.

News Center- In Turkey, women are killed every day. We Will Stop Femicide Platform has released its 2022 October report on femicide. At least 275 women have been killed by men in Turkey in the first 10 months of 2022, according to the report. 

The report said that men killed at least 34 women and 26 more women died under suspicious circumstances in October.

Rate of femicide cases increases by 88%

According to the report, most women were killed for refusing marriage, or dating proposals. 18 of 34 women were killed by their husbands, 20 women were killed at their homes, seven were killed on the streets.

26 suspicious deaths

The report said that 26 women died under suspicious circumstances in October. “Instead of announcing how many women were killed, why, how and by whom, the Ministry of Interior distorts the facts by claiming that our platform releases incorrect figures,” the report said. “Women apply to the state institutions to protect themselves; however, the authorities do not fulfill their duties. Seven percent (19 women) of women killed in 2022 were killed although they had got a restraining order.”
