Prison and House Arrest Sentences Against Five Azerbaijani Civil Activists
The Iranian judicial authorities issued rulings against five Azerbaijani civil activists, including a total of five years in prison, ten years of house arrest, and ten years of deprivation of electronic services, according to published reports.
NEWS CENTER_ The judicial apparatus of the Islamic Republic sentenced five Azerbaijani civil activists — Sima (Akram) Ali Pour, Salar Taher Afshar, Vahid Abhari Iranaq, Nima Radmanesh, and Hussein Ismaili Soume'eh — to a total of five years of effective imprisonment, ten years of house arrest in Zabol city, and ten years of deprivation of access to electronic services.
According to published reports, each of these activists was sentenced to one year in Zabol Prison, forced residence in this city for two years, and deprivation of electronic services for two years.
These five activists had been summoned between September and October 2025, after receiving official notifications, to the Third Branch of Preliminary Investigations at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecution in Tabriz. The charges included in the summonses included "propaganda against the regime," "disturbing public opinion," and "forging government and official documents by state employees."
These rulings were issued at a time when the five activists had previously faced arrest or security and judicial summonses. Sima (Akram) Ali Pour has a prior record of arrest alongside her husband Davoud Shiri (Derakhshan) in 2022, and was also summoned to the Tabriz Intelligence Department in 2025.
As for Salar Taher Afshar, who is currently serving a five-year prison sentence in Evin Prison, he was sentenced to one year in prison in a separate case. He had been arrested in February 2025, and a five-year prison sentence was issued against him on the charge of "assembly and conspiracy."
As for Vahid Abhari Iranaq, he was previously arrested in Tabriz in December 2024, and was released after a period on financial bail. He was also summoned to the Tabriz Intelligence Department in the same year.
Likewise, the intelligence forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard arrested Nima Radmanesh and Hussein Ismaili Soume'eh in Tabriz. After 15 days of their arrest, they were transferred from the detention center to Tabriz Prison, then released in the same year, after posting financial bail.
According to published information, the latest ruling imposed similar penalties on the five activists, while their previous judicial records fall within separate cases.
